The Lord works in mysterious ways. In ancient times, the Lord would compel people to build temples and travel the Earth to spread his gospel. Today, according to one woman in Alberta, Canada, the Lord tells you to post memes.

Monique LaGrange is a woman who was formerly on the board of trustees for a Catholic School in Red Deer, Alberta. What got her kicked off of the board, you ask? According to the Red Deer Advocate, “On or about Aug. 27, the trustee posted a meme on her personal Facebook page of two side-by-side photographs. One was a historic photo of young Nazi supporters and the other was a contemporary image of young people holding a rainbow Pride flag. Beneath were the words ‘brainwashing is brainwashing.’”

If one is thinking normally, they might realize that saying Nazism is akin to LGBT+ Pride is a really bad and fundamentally stupid idea, especially if you’re on the board of a school where, inevitably, some of the students are gay. But if you’re thinking like LaGrange, this is all one big misunderstanding. She was not acting alone in posting this meme — no, she had the Lord on her side!

“The trustee told the board, ‘The Holy Spirit had told her to post the meme.’ LaGrange added the Holy Spirit told her, ‘Go for it,’” writes Lana Michelin for the Red Deer Advocate.

LaGrange also tried to make the argument that the meme that compared Nazis to gay people wasn’t actually comparing Nazis to gay people. Instead, LaGrange claimed that the post was a criticism of indoctrination. The school board didn’t buy it. As they put it, “A reasonable person viewing the two photographs could reasonably conclude that a negative comparison was made.” You don’t say!

At the end of the day, LaGrange was “suspended from committee duties and from representing the board at public functions and told to sincerely apologize and understand why her actions were inappropriate and offensive to many, including the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre.”

LaGrange, for her part, appears to be trying to appeal the action — meaning we’ll just have to wait and see what God tells her to post next.
